Chris Andersen: Latest News, Rumors, Speculation Surrounding Free-Agent C

Free-agent center Chris Andersen split the 2015-16 campaign between the Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies, but he may be headed for a reunion with former teammate LeBron James in the coming days.

Cavaliers Looking at Signing Andersen

Friday, July 8

According to ESPN.com's Dave McMenamin, Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue told the NBA TV summer-league broadcast Friday evening that the team is "working on" signing Andersen.

The Miami Herald's Ethan J. Skolnick first reported that Andersen was a possibility for the Cavaliers on July 6. Cleveland.com's Chris Haynes added that while the deal isn't done yet, the "team hopes to close."

Andersen and James were teammates in Miami during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons before James returned to Cleveland, so the signing would be logical for a Cavaliers team that's searching for an extra big body after losing Timofey Mozgov to the Los Angeles Lakers.

As the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman noted, Andersen "loved" playing with James during their two years together in Miami.

Now 38 years old, Andersen likely won't be asked to contribute on a nightly basis. But if the 6'10" big man can stay healthy, he could offer energy in spurts off the bench when it comes to crashing the boards and protecting the rim.
