As the Sacramento Kings try to clear the logjam they currently have at center, Kosta Koufos is a good trade chip for the team to dangle.
Report: Koufos Among Kings Available
Friday, July 8
Per ESPN's Marc Stein, the Kings have made Koufos, Ben McLemore and Rudy Gay available in a trade for interested teams.
The Kings gave Koufos a four-year, $33 million contract last summer after he spent two successful seasons as Marc Gasol's backup with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Koufos played well in limited duty for the Kings last season, averaging 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 78 games. He was only on the court for 19 minutes each night, so translating his numbers over 36 minutes translate to 12.9 points and 10.3 rebounds, per Basketball Reference.
Center is a position the Kings need to clear room. They have Koufos behind DeMarcus Cousins and acquired the rights to Greek center Georgios Papagiannis in the draft.
Koufos does make a reasonable salary in this era of exploding contracts, as he's only owed just over $8 million next season, per Spotrac. He's been used as a starter in the past, so a team in need of a big man could find a way to make a deal worth their while.
