The 2016 Las Vegas NBA Summer League rolled on Saturday with a jam-packed slate featuring eight games split between the Cox Pavilion and the Thomas & Mack Center.
Let's check out the complete schedule and results from Saturday, which will be updated through the end of play in Las Vegas. That's followed by a recap of the Day 2 action.
Saturday's Results
San Antonio Spurs 63, Golden State Warriors 61
Kyle Anderson continued burnishing his summer league reputation Saturday in the San Antonio Spurs' 63-61 win over the Golden State Warriors.
Anderson finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds, though Jonathon Simmons stole the headlines with his game-winning shot. Simmons grabbed an inbound pass and remained composed just long enough to beat the buzzer.
The Spurs offered a look at the shot:

San Antonio fans will be pleased by the contributions of Jarnell Stokes and Dejounte Murray, who both nearly posted double-doubles. Stokes had 10 points and nine rebounds, and not to be outdone, Murray scored eight points and grabbed 10 boards.
Keifer Sykes was one of two Warriors to score in double figures. He led the team with 15 points, and Patrick McCaw was right behind him with 14 points of his own.
Dallas Mavericks 83, Miami Heat 64
The Miami Heat had no answer for Jonathan Gibson, who scored 30 points to help the Dallas Mavericks run out to an 83-64 win Saturday.
Gibson had the hot hand, with the Mavericks posting two of his more impressive shots from long distance:

Justin Anderson scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds in support of Gibson. Anderson also provided the highlight of the game with this one-handed slam dunk off a rebound, courtesy of the Mavs:

As a team, Dallas caught fire offensively. The Mavericks shot 47.1 percent from the field and connected on 52.6 percent of their three-pointers. They also out-rebounded Miami 44-30. It was a comprehensive victory for the Mavs.
Two days after they signed him to the team, Rodney McGruder led the team with 18 points. Victor Rudd added 14 points and six rebounds.
Los Angeles Lakers 70, Philadelphia 76ers 69
No summer league game had more excitement Saturday than the Los Angeles Lakers' 70-69 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
D'Angelo Russell's buzzer-beating three-pointer was the difference in the game. The Lakers shared a replay of his pivotal shot:

As if Russell's three didn't provide enough entertainment, Jerami Grant delivered what will almost certainly be the best dunk of the summer league. Lakers rookie center Ivica Zubac was on the unfortunate bystander in the way of Grant's slam. NBA TV shared a replay:

Ben Simmons narrowly missed out on a triple-double, scoring eight points, grabbing 10 boards and dishing out eight assists.
Denver Nuggets 106, Memphis Grizzlies 62
The Denver Nuggets nearly doubled up the Memphis Grizzlies, coasting to a 106-62 victory.
Jimmer Mania consumed Sin City for a two-hour period Saturday. Jimmer Fredette led all scorers with 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting. He could've finished with 40 had Denver not started calling off the dogs in the second half. Fredette had 19 minutes in the opening half and averaged a little under a point a minute after playing 27 minutes in the win.
Second-round draft pick Petr Cornelie had a strong game as well, scoring 19 points and grabbing seven rebounds. The Denver Post's Malika Andrews thought the 21-year-old is becoming more and more comfortable on an NBA court:

Only one Grizzlies player, Wade Baldwin IV, finished with double figures in scoring. As a team, Memphis shot 23-of-73 from the field, including 2-of-26 from three-point range.
The Grizzlies can rebound with a with a win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday.
The Nuggets will attempt to maintain their perfect record when they take on the Miami Heat on Monday also.
Washington Wizards 88, Utah Jazz 73
Kelly Oubre's 20 points led the way for the Washington Wizards, who picked up an 88-73 win over the Utah Jazz to begin the Vegas summer league.
Oubre's shooting (6-of-19 from the field, 2-of-10 from three-point range) left a little to be desired, but he added eight rebounds and four steals. SB Nation's Bullets Forever was pleased with what it saw from the second-year forward:

Jazz fans will take solace from the loss in Trey Lyles' 28 points and five rebounds. The big man also flashed some nice range, hitting three of his seven attempts from beyond the arc.
Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors give Utah a tremendous 1-2 punch in the backcourt. If Lyles can take a step forward in 2016-17, the what is already a strength for the Jazz will become an even bigger asset as the team looks to get back in the playoffs.
Both the Wizards and Jazz will be back in action Sunday. Washington takes on the Atlanta Hawks, and Utah faces off with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Chicago Bulls 71, Boston Celtics 62
Bobby Portis had a solid rookie season with the Chicago Bulls in 2015-16, and he could be poised for big things next season. Based on his summer league performance Saturday, Bulls fans are right to be optimistic about the 21-year-old.
Portis posted a double-double (17 points, 13 rebounds) in his team's 71-62 win over the Boston Celtics. NBA TV shared an example of Portis' ability off the dribble as he slammed home a right-handed jam in the third quarter:

CBSSports.com's Matt Moore thinks the former Arkansas Razorback just needs to bulk up a bit to hit his ceiling as a player:

Chicago's backcourt was more of a mixed bag as Jerian Grant scored 13 points but Denzel Valentine had a game to forget. Valentine missed all nine of his three-point attempts and scored eight points.
Terry Rozier was Boston's leading scorer with 13 points, while Abdel Nader was right behind him with 12 points.
Brooklyn Nets 79, Cleveland Cavaliers 73
Jordan McRae's 27 points weren't enough to propel the Cleveland Cavaliers to victory, as they fell 79-73 to the Brooklyn Nets.
The game wasn't for the basketball aesthetes. Cleveland and Brooklyn combined to shoot 50-of-133 from the field, including 14-of-47 from three-point range. The teams also committed 49 turnovers.
McRae was one of the few bright spots, even in a losing effort for the Cavs. Along with his game-high scoring output, he grabbed three assists and picked up five steals.
For McRae, the game had a little extra special meaning. The Delaware 87ers noted on Twitter he was roommates with Nets guard Sean Kilpatrick when the two were in the NBA D-League together. Kilpatrick led the Nets with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
Nets fans who are expecting a big jump from Rondae Hollis-Jefferson won't be too encouraged by his performance Saturday. The 2015 first-rounder had a solid all-around game but finished with three points to go along with his eight rebounds, four assists, seven steals and five turnovers.
The Cavaliers will look to bounce back in their next game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, while the Nets will want to continue their winning ways against the Atlanta Hawks.
Phoenix Suns 86, Portland Trail Blazers 73
Devin Booker led the charge with 28 points, as the Suns easily pulled away from the Blazers during the opening game.
Booker wasn't the only player to shine for Phoenix, though. Alan Williams put up 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Dragan Bender had 12 points and seven boards. Tyler Ulis added 11 points, seven assists and five rebounds in what was a complete team effort.
Make no mistake, though—Booker stole the spotlight, as NBA TV highlighted:
— NBA TV (@NBATV) July 9, 2016
Noah Vonleh posted a double-double for Portland with 12 points and 11 rebounds, but he made just four of his 12 shots from the field. Other notable performances in the Blazers' losing effort included 14 points from Pat Connaughton and Pierre Jackson's 11 points (on 5-of-8 shooting) and four assists.
Looking ahead, Phoenix will get right back in action Sunday night to take on the Boston Celtics. Another effort like the one the Suns' young players were able to produce against Portland would start building some real optimism about the team's progress.
The Blazers also return to the floor Sunday for a clash with the San Antonio Spurs. While there were some positive moments during the loss, the coaching staff is going to look for a much better defensive effort after getting blitzed in the middle quarters by the Suns.
