The Golden State Warriors didn't extend a qualifying offer to James Michael McAdoo before free agency started, but they reportedly struck a deal to keep him in the fold for at least one more season.
McAdoo has been a seldom-used piece off Golden State's pine each of the past two seasons, but keeping him in the fold at such a cheap rate allows the defending Western Conference champions to bolster their frontcourt depth even more.
Veteran David West reportedly agreed to sign for the veteran minimum on July 5, per Turner Sports analyst David Aldridge, while burly enforcer Zaza Pachulia reportedly took a steep discount and signed for the Warriors' $2.9 million room exception, per The Vertical's Shams Charania.
News of Golden State's re-signing of McAdoo comes on the same day that The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported former Warriors forward Marreese Speights agreed to sign a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.
The 23-year-old McAdoo has hit the floor for only 56 regular-season games over the past two seasons, averaging 3.2 points and 1.7 rebounds during that span. However, the North Carolina product has made the most of his limited action by posting an above-average player efficiency rating of 16.5 in his career to date.
McAdoo also played in eight postseason games this past season, but his appearances were generally limited to blowout wins or losses.
If those trends are any indication, McAdoo likely won't play a much larger role during the 2016-17 season unless some of the team's more aged bodies encounter injury woes.
